POINT LOMA LIGHTOUSES - This is a high resolution aerial photo of the New Point Loma Lighthouse located on Pelican Point, a low-lying, level area at the southern extreme of Point Loma. The Lighthouse has been operational since 1891. It is called the new lighthouse because there was an old lighthouse in service from 1855-1891. The old LightHouse is on the top of the hill 400ft above sea level. It can bee seen in better detail by zooming in with the window below. The old lighthouse was replaced by the one in the foreground because of fog that many times prevented the ships from seeing the light. This is a never before seen view of Pelican point.
